FEEDING WILD BIRDS: A GUIDE TO SEED TYPES

FEEDING WILD BIRDS: A GUIDE TO SEED TYPES

by BA Nester

One of the most common questions we get is, “What kind of seed should I put in my feeders?” The answer is, it all depends on “who” you want to attract! We all see the big ol’ bags of generic Bird Seed in the grocery store and then we end up attracting mourning doves and “sparrows”, when what we REALLY want to feed are those cute little Black Capped Chickadees and the bright-eyed Tufted Titmice!

I feed Black Oil Sunflower Seeds because “everyone” likes it AND I feed Safflower seeds because my personal favorites love it! Some suet for the woodpeckers, some peanuts for the Blue Jays, some Niger Thistle for finches! Check out the chart below and start attracting the birds to your feeders! Happy Birding!
